Mark & Shauna
I received a lovely email enquiry from Shauna explaining that she and her husband were planning to create a master suite / parent’s retreat with a major renovation of the top floor of their home. They were stuck on how to achieve a workable layout and welcomed ideas for the design and style as they just didn’t know where to start.
On my first visit to their home, I was surprised to see just how much space on the upper level that they had to work with. Having previously built in under the house and moving the kitchen, dining and living room downstairs to street level, the old kitchen, dining, living room, main bedroom, WIR and ensuite were now obsolete. They were using the downstairs living room as their master bedroom in the interim. There was just SO much space to utilise, I could understand why they were feeling overwhelmed about where to start.
Mark and Shauna very quickly realised that with both of them working full-time and having a young family, life was busy! They decided that engaging me to provide them with all of the designs, drawings and selections, was going to save them a lot of time and potentially save them from making design mistakes. Having me by their side throughout the entire project meant that they could “get on with life” and leave everything to me!

Their Brief
Transform the existing obsolete spaces into a relaxing retreat and master suite, using clean lines, a soft, muted colour palette and create a sense of calm and luxury.
The plan is to create a cohesive retreat with an adjacent sitting/living room – where together, these spaces provide a relaxing space to unwind after a busy day, and and the master suite can be closed off for additional privacy.
The Colour Palette
A neutral colour palette to bring a light and calming, relaxed feel, with the inclusion of timber finishes to create a sense of warmth and a timeless look that won’t date. We incorporated a pale teal feature tile in the ensuite for a subtle pop of colour
Pretty champagne tapware was selected to bring a touch of luxury.
The Ensuite Design
Large shower space with the largest niche possible
Double rail shower with large overhead showerhead
Frameless shower screen with door
Wall-hung double vanity with his & hers above bench basins
Recessed mirrored cabinets to provide additional storage with GPO’s inside
Large, freestanding bath
Heated towel rail
WIR / Dressing Room Design
A layout that allows the master bedroom to be closed off from the ensuite and the dressing room
Create a large dressing room with robe space with plenty of drawers and hanging space
A centre console with drawers and storage for shoes, accessories, and jewellery
Built-in seating with clever storage inside
Main Bathroom Design
A neutral colour palette with a fresh and clean look
Additional storage with recessed mirror cabinet
A back-to-wall corner bath that looks modern and fits the space well
The Finishing Touches
All new engineered oak flooring throughout the upper level in the living areas
Luxurious loop carpet in the master bedroom and dressing room
Beautiful sheer and block-out curtains that make the spaces feel so peaceful
Shutters to the ensuite and main bathroom to elevate the overall look
Their Feedback
Read what Mark & Shauna had to say about their experience working with me …
“We were overwhelmed by the space and what to do with it. Planning a layout that would best suit the space was also very difficult.
Before engaging Verona, we felt overwhelmed by all the choices, so having someone pare down selections was extremely helpful. It was great that we were on the same page and the vision for our aesthetics was very similar.
Communication from Verona was great, the 3D renders were brilliant and really helped visualise the space. Having someone manage the project and deal with issues was great.
The renovation met our brief and has helped us enjoy living in our home. It all now works for us!”
