The Design Brief…Where it all starts – Kalinga Project

Kalinga Project

One of the most common questions I’m asked is “how does this interior design thing work?” More often than not, people are looking for inspiration for their home renovations on Instagram, Pinterest, Facebook and interiors magazines, flicking through beautiful images of freshly renovated kitchens or bathrooms, oohing and ahhing over the professionally curated photographs.

But…what you don’t often see or hear about, are the stories behind the designs, or the stories behind the clients, their homes, and the dreams they have for creating their own style.

So, how does this actually happen?

For me, it starts with a Design Brief. The Design Brief is the starting place for all of my projects, big or small. It’s the key foundation to ensuring that my clients feel understood and that their vision is interpreted clearly by me.

Without a comprehensive Design Brief, the project has no clear direction or clear desired outcomes to work towards. Creating a Design Brief involves time spent with you, getting to know you, your family, your home, your lifestyle, what you like and don’t like and working through a comprehensive questionnaire that helps me to understand the details of what you want, what you need…and what you didn’t know you needed or wanted!!

My Old Queenslander Project - Kalinga

My client at Kalinga has a beautiful old Queenslander home that needs a little love and TLC. Now Queenslanders can present themselves in a number of different ways. Some people love the Hamptons look with clean and crisp whites, some people love the Traditional look with heritage features and some people love a little bit of everything to reflect their eclectic lifestyle.

In this home, we are actually mixing a little bit of Traditional Heritage with a little bit of eclectic to really express the character and personality of my client.

Green is featuring predominantly in this design. In the bathroom, a gorgeous cast iron claw foot bath will take centre stage…and the surprise is that…it’s going to be green!

Here’s a little sneak peak of the bathroom tiles, fittings and fixtures I’ve selected, with some very pretty greens that may be the final choice for the exterior of the bath.

Thank you!

Thankyou to The Tile Mob and Reece for making my job so much easier with these beautiful selections on offer in their range.
